After researching via a questionnaire and a by analysing real media artefacts (music magazines) my results and knowledge will help me to create a successful music magazine. These are the key factors that I have learnt and will use in my magazine.
From the results of my questionnaire that involved 30 people, I have learnt that the most popular genre of music magazine is ‘Rock’ and the second most popular is ‘indie’. For my music magazine I want to do something different than a rock genre as most of the big music magazines are based around rock music, therefore I will have indie and the genre because it is similar to rock and I believe there is a gap in the market for one and the genre was more popular than ‘Hip-Hop’ and ‘Pop’. Just over half of the people I questioned were male but only by a small number therefore I will target my magazine at both men and women. I will do this using neutral/unisex colours like black white and red which will also resemble the genre. Over 75% of the people that answered my questionnaire were between the ages of 16-21 and 100% were students so with my results I will aim my magazine at this age making my magazine more informal to relate to this young adult age group and their likely interests however my layout will be neat and traditional so its accessible to the reader. I would sell my magazine monthly and in local shops/news agents and big name supermarkets as they were the popular places music magazines were bought. Because I’d sell my magazine monthly instead of weekly, the issues would be full on content. As the target audience do not posses a lot of my i will include promotions and competetions involving concerts to keep my audience interested. My front covers focal point will be a big image of the featured artist/band as that was the most popular answer of what would appeal to them on the cover. And the top 2 most popular things that were desired within the magazine were new artists or bands and new and popular songs. Because I know what is desired in a music magazine I will use one of these as a basis for my double page spread. I would sell my magazine as a hard copy rather than to be bought and red online as 80% of people said they would rather go out to a shop and buy a hard copy magazine to read when and where they wanted. The majority of people said they read magazines at home. Because of this I will make my magazine have a relaxed feel to it. I will do this by using the appropriate colours, font, language and layout.
Things I have learnt and therefore will include in my magazine:-
· My target audience will be male and female
· The ages group it will be aimed at will be 16-20 year olds
· The main colours I will use must be unisex and relate to my chosen genre (indie) therefore the colour scheme will consist of red, black and white.
· The focal point of my front cover will consist of a picture with minor text surrounding it as that is what is most desired and appealing.
· The house style should remain the same throughout the magazine so the readers are always reminded of what magazine they are reading.
· The language will include minor slang mainly when quoting someone or in headlines so it can relate to the age appropriate age group.
· I will use unisex colours for my magazine as it will be aimed at both sexes the mains colours I will use will be red black and white due to their connotations and how they match the indie genre.
· The layout on my double page spread will consist of a large image of the featured artist on one page and 3 traditional columns of text that will make up the article on the other as my results showed this would be popular.
· Most ‘Rock’ based magazines use similar fonts so to make my stand out I will use an unusual font.
· The title of my magazine needs to be different, catchy and recognisable.
· Teenagers do not always have a lot of money so the price of my magazine will be affordable and worth the money. I will price it at no more than £.2.50 (monthly)

After the analysis of the real media artefacts and the product placement make sure you summarise all that you have learnt and how the research has informed the planning- what are you going to create andwhat will it be like?

Gender?
Age?
Occupation?
Preferred music genre?
Do you buy music magazines?
Why do you purchase them?
The most common reasons for people buying music magazines were: To see/read about new artists/bands, find out about tour dates, find out celebrity gossip and to see what nusic is big in the charts. Knowing this i would include all of these things in my music magazine to ensure the content is relevant and desired by the reader.
How often do you buy them?
Where do you buy them?
Supermarkets were where most of the people i questioned bought their music magazines. The local shop/newsagent was the next popular. therefore if i were to sell a music magazine its proven that well known stores and local and possibly independent newsagents would be the best place to sell my magazine.
On average how much do you pay for a music magazine?
How much would you rather or be willing to pay for your preferred genre music magazine?
What is the most important thing you would wish to find in a music magazine?
What would you like on the front cover?
Where do you read magazines most?

Your cover analysis is pretty detailed, but do the elements on the front cover work?
Also (minor quibble ) 'rookie' and 'hot' are slang, just not aimed at your age group! :)

What colour scheme would you prefer on the cover to make you more likely to buy the magazine?
Do you read magazines as a hard copy or online?

Your analysis is pretty good, but I agree with Miss D, you need to have published your questionnaire and analysis. It's important.

Ellie,
Over half term you need to have done the following:
Questionnaire and analysis, Front cover, contents and double page spread analysis x2 and also product placement and how the research has informed the planning.

Some great analysis here of colour, image and artist. Look at the name of the magazine and what it suggests and also the LAYOUT of the cover and how text and image is integrated.
